Jessica Max Stein will be in conversation with Fred Buchholz talking about Stein’s new book. Funny Boy: The Richard Hunt Biography tells the life story of a gifted performer with the Muppets whose gleeful irreverence, sharp wit and generous spirit inspired millions.
Jessica Max Stein writes vivid, novelistic queer history that brings the past to life. Most recently, she is the author of Funny Boy: The Richard Hunt Biography (Rutgers University Press, 2024). Her writing has received awards from Poets and Writers Magazine, the Independent Press Association, and the Biographers International Organization, as well as being published widely. She teaches writing and literature at Hunter College of the City University of New York (CUNY).
Fred Buchholz – For 20 years Fred worked for Jim Henson Productions, designing puppet props, puppet mechanisms and special effects. After leaving Henson, Fred ran Acme Special Effects, providing practical effects for film and television. Fred had the opportunity to work on films directed by Woody Allen, Robert Altman, Jonathan Demme, Nora Ephron, Todd Haynes, Jim Henson, Spike Lee, Garry Marshall, Nancy Meyers, Frank Oz, Martin Scorsese, Colin Trevorrow and Steven Spielberg.
