by Amy Ferris

She is an editor, a writer, an author, a mother, a wife, a speaker, a producer, a warrior, a Goddess, a SHEro, a feminist, a girlfriend and a grand woman.

She was the first editor of Ms. magazine. She won a Peabody Award for producing the amazing documentary She’s Nobody’s Baby: American Women in the 20th Century.  She was the first woman editor of the Columbia Journalism Review. She was named a WOMAN OF THE YEAR, plus she gave an inspiring TEDxWomen talk. She is one in the remarkable series The Makers. She has written numerous books that have inspired and encouraged all women – young and old – to awaken to their greatness, to celebrate their second adulthood, to honor the men who support them, and to celebrate the women – girlfriends – in their lives who lift them. She co-authored – along with Mary Thom – the definitive book on the late and great Bella Abzug, and her years at Ms. are in an archive at Smith College.

She is a true-blue champion of girls and women.

She is grace, and goodness and a quiet elegance.

I could list a million a things; I could go on and on about her beauty and brilliance, her humor and humility, her heart and yes, her soul, but the truth is – the real truth – she is one in a million.

She is the co-founder and co-conspirator of the Milford Readers and Writers Festival.
