Mike Vreeland and Nancy Bachana share their experiences writing and publishing middle-grade fiction, from inspiration to marketing. Both have career experiences they bring to their current writing projects, Mike’s superhero series and Nancy’s historical mysteries series. There will be a discussion followed by Q and A.

Mike Vreeland

Mike Vreeland is the author of the ongoing Dumpster Man superhero series. He also writes, records, and performs original humorous and educational music for young people and their families. His poems and puzzles have appeared in Highlights magazine and others, He has written locally produced plays and ghostwritten several MG and YA novels and adult novellas. He is a former middle school language arts teacher and lives in the lower Catskills of New York with his wife.

Nancy Bachana

Nancy Bachana

Nancy Bachana brings a unique blend of expertise in urban planning, public history, and storytelling to her work as historic interpreter and children’s author. Long drawn to waterways, she is museum educator at the D&H Canal Historical Society in High Falls, NY, where she combines her passion for canal history with engaging public programming. Nancy spent ten years at the NYC Department of Transportation, including a role with the Staten Island Ferry where she loved riding the big orange boat across New York Harbor every day. Nancy’s first children’s title, The Key to Puzzler’s Lock (March 2025), is a puzzle mystery set in a D&H Canal town in Sullivan County, NY.
