Dick Cavett and John Berendt: The Art of the Interview

A conversation between legendary television host Dick Cavett and “Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil” author John Berendt who served on Cavett’s talk-show production staff in the early 1970’s. They will discuss the fine points of conducting the perfect interview, whether on-air with a guest or behind the scenes with a source. Video clips from some of Dick Cavett’s most memorable interviews will be shown.

Legendary television host, writer & 3-time Emmy winner Dick Cavett will be the featured speaker at the 2019 Milford Readers & Writers Festival. Cavett’s career spanned five consecutive decades on television – the 1960s through the 2000s – and he is still considered today to have been the wittiest, most consummate interviewer ever. His interviews from his talk show are iconic, and include unforgettable shows with such notables as John Lennon and Yoko Ono, Salvador Dali, Richard Burton, and the notoriously reclusive Katharine Hepburn, to name just a few.

He has been nominated for 10 Emmy awards and won three. He has been a stand-up comic, a New York Times columnist, a stage performer and has co-authored two autobiographical books.
